Within a few hours’ drive you can move from ancient kingdoms carved in stone to rainforests dripping with endemic birdlife, from surf towns to elephant corridors, from colonial forts to cloud-wrapped tea estates. Kaudulla functions as an extension of the Minneriya ecosystem – connected by a forest corridor that elephants use actively during seasonal migrations between the two tank systems. The park is less visited than Minneriya, giving it a quieter, more personal safari atmosphere and its wetland edges host extraordinary concentrations of painted storks and other waterbirds.
